Listing Setup 1: Stripe - Setting up a Stripe Account

Listing Setup: Stripe - The Setup

In short

Stripe is the payment processor that charges guests for bookings outside Airbnb, including direct bookings, Vrbo reservations through a channel manager and Booking.com when you collect payment yourself. Your channel manager sets the rules and timing, Stripe processes the card and your bank receives the funds. Setting it up before going live avoids confirmed bookings with no payment collected.

Questions people ask

Does Airbnb use Stripe for host payments?

No. Airbnb always collects guest payments itself and pays hosts on its own schedule, so Stripe is used for your other channels.

Do I need Stripe for Vrbo bookings?

If Vrbo is connected through a channel manager such as OwnerRez, you are generally responsible for collecting payment, so a processor like Stripe needs to be ready.

Why use Stripe for direct bookings?

Stripe lets you take deposits, charge balances automatically before arrival and handle refunds in a structured way instead of chasing guests manually.
