Lesson: Outdoor Spaces – Turning the Exterior into the Experience Guests Remember

Module 4: Designing & Setting Up Your Airbnb

In short

When guests picture a holiday they picture the outdoors, so a well-designed exterior often becomes the reason people book. Outdoor areas work best as clear zones for entertaining, water and wellness, and play, each with one job. Deep lounges keep groups outside far longer than a dining table, and fire, heating and lighting extend use into the evening and cooler months.

Questions people ask

What outdoor features attract Airbnb bookings?

Features that create shared experiences, such as a pool or spa, a fire pit, comfortable outdoor lounges and play equipment for children, tend to become the hero photos and the highlights guests mention in reviews.

Is an outdoor dining table enough for an Airbnb entertaining area?

Usually not. Dining chairs suit a meal, not a long evening, so a deep lounge that seats the whole group does more to keep guests outside.

Do Airbnb units and apartments need outdoor upgrades?

Outdoor space is a natural disadvantage for most units, and shared building amenities aren't valued like private ones. Style a balcony well, but avoid over-capitalising.
