Lesson: Guest Verification & Security

Module 5: Team, Systems & Operations

In short

Platform verification is not your protection: Airbnb checks some guests in some situations, does not share guest ID with hosts and is not a party to the stay. Your own signed rental agreement, photo ID and a matching selfie tie a real person to each booking, deter party bookings and give you evidence if something goes wrong.

What this lesson covers

Questions people ask

Does Airbnb verify every guest's ID?

No. Airbnb verifies some guests in some situations and does not share a guest's ID with the host, so many professional hosts add their own verification step.

Can I ask Airbnb guests for ID after they book?

Only if your listing clearly states the requirement before they book. Requirements that appear only after a booking is made are not something you can rely on.

Can I decline an Airbnb booking because of red flags?

You can decide based on behaviour, such as dates, guest numbers, the purpose of the stay or a refusal to verify. You must never decline because of race, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality or disability.
